The best Independent team is very much in play for an At-Large bid to a NY6 bowl, which most of the time goes to Notre Dame, however, BYU and the military academies always seem to be sneaky good. I feel like these are the most justifiable independents I could possibly chose from - the service academies classically have an independent feel, BYU and Notre Dame have storied histories as Independents, and Hawai'i is so out of the way geographically that it just makes sense. The 6 I chose were Air Force, Army, Navy, Notre Dame, BYU, and Hawai'i. With this set-up, I am forced to have 6 teams be independent. There are some stretches I had to make, but I made them as justified as I possibly could. This will basically fix the problems that bigger conferences have with not playing in-conference opponents for years at a time.Ĭonferences/divisions are designed in mind to keep as many regional rivalries alive as possible. This allows for 8 conference games, and will cycle through all teams in the conference so that in a theoretical 4 year career at a school, a player would be able to play all teams in the conference at least once both home and away.

Let's go over my rules for this realignment:Įvery team must have 12 teams - no more, no less - with protected rivals ON. Now, I think I have done a much better job. My independents on the last one were too weird, I did not like some of the decisions I made for the G5 conferences, and all in all it was a bit messy. I posted about that here, but I had a lot of time to think since then, and decided that they just weren't good enough. A few months ago, I went on a journey to create the "perfect conferences".
